Four Seasons - Jackson Hole, USA

Gigi here, from beautiful Jackson Hole!

After a morning hike, afternoon drive, or mountain bike ride...your sore muscle cure is the Four Seasons spa in the Teton Village at Jackson Hole! I recently returned from a jaunt into the Teton Mountains to try out this famous spa. After a day of adventures, I was happy to walk into a place of solitude from the bright sun and trails. The spa is easy to find after a one-direction-gesture from the pleasant front desk. The ornate doors welcome you to a lobby filled with special products to bring home and lead to a check in area and smiling staff member. If you’re booking the same day, a concise catalogue and some Q&A with staff will help you decide between their many treatments; ranging from a facial to all day couples treatments. If you choose to book ahead, the website is very navigable too.

Once I had a key in hand, I wound through a couple doorways, which I must point out are purposeful ante-rooms, but seem excessive. Everything about the spa is quiet and calming. The robes, complimentary products, and changing areas are very spacious and immediately put me at ease. I suggest arriving early to sit in the special women’s lounge hot tub. It is expertly accompanied by showers, a steam room, and cold plunge pool all in the same, beautifully tiled, space. Through one more doorway is the one-of-a-kind relaxation room. This ornate and inviting oasis boasts large comfortable chairs, delicious tea, and the very best homemade granola bar you will ever have! It is a Four Seasons recipe that they are happy to share, which made Gigi very happy! Oui, oui!

Quite impressed was I thus far and I sat in my throne in my luxe robe for only a few minutes when I was greeted for my first treatment. My masseuse led me through the quiet and dim hallway to an intimate room for a hot stone massage. The uniqueness of this massage lies in how large the stones were and how they held heat. It created a longer lasting tension release on the muscles that I felt for days afterward. The staff at Four Seasons is so accommodating in that I was able to choose my own music for the treatment, own scent, and focus spots for my massage. The most remarkable thing about a massage at the Jackson Hole spa is that they cater to the thrill seeker in all of us. By focusing on glute and hamstring muscles, soreness quickly fades away. I was very relaxed and comfortable and appreciated the periodic check-in with my well-being throughout the fifty-five minutes. I honestly wish it could have been longer!

For my second treatment, I was led to another larger room for an eighty minute facial. You may wonder what goes on for eighty minutes in a facial; let me tell you though, it is pure bliss! My facialist was gentle and accommodating in the same details as my masseuse. It added to how incredibly relaxed I became for this treatment which was accented in wonderful aromas of fruit and Brazilian Propolis. The mask and multiple cleansing treatments left my skin radiant, as someone pointed out the next day. I also added on a rejuvenating lip scrub, that I must say was more sugar residue than lip makeover. It was the only part of both treatments I felt left something to be desired. As I left the room I was handed product notes in the items I liked most and a small dish of the tastiest raspberry sorbet. It was a perfect cap to the quality time I felt was spent at the Spa at the Four Seasons. Without hesitation, I rate it at five stars and highly recommend a visit!

There are two things that you should know when traveling to Colorado Springs. First, jumping into a hot yoga session an hour after arriving and prior to acclimating to the altitude is a poor choice. You will be the class entertainment, guaranteed. Second, your visit to the city will be incomplete without visiting the legacy that is the Broadmoor Hotel.

Valentine's Day at the Petit Spa/Jefferson HotelThe Petit Spa at The Jefferson Hotel, Washington, D.C.

Small things done in great ways are worth making a big deal about.  A prime example is The Petit Spa in Washington, DC.  Tucked away on the second floor of the enchanting Jefferson Hotel in the heart of the city, The Petit Spa is all you’d expect from a luxury boutique establishment, plus everything more.

Connaught Hotel, Big Ben“Ding, dong, ding, dong”. Cheers, Luxus readers!  Big Ben and I send our hearty regards from the marvelous city of London, England.  It’s brilliant to be back here and it’s an honor (or shall I say honour ) to share highlights of my recent London spa trip with you.  This bustling, diverse, and often gray, charmer of a city is a second home to me and I fall more in love with it upon every return.

Providing a relaxation ritual most Westerners would peg between extreme and adventurous, Seattle’s Banya 5 offers an urban spa experience unlike the rest. “I call it ‘proactive relaxation,” says Drew Shelton-Stewart, Director of Operations and Client Services at Banya 5. By proactive, he means clients sitting in a 240 degree oven while flogging each other with oak branches before plunging full-body into an icy 40 degree pool. And for what? For a level of physical and mental exuberance that has them coming back again and again.

Many spas seek to incorporate environmentally friendly aspects in their surroundings, but the Elaia Spa genuinely embraces the entire “green” philosophy. Lodged within the Hyatt at Olive 8, Seattle’s first LEED* certified hotel, the spa is ideally located in the heart of downtown - only walking distance from Pike’s Place Market, the theatre district, and top shopping destinations.

I recently had the pleasure of hitting the Hawaiian island of Oahu for some spa time at one of Waikiki Beach’s most popular hotels, the Hyatt Regency. The in-house Na Ho’ola “two-story, 10,000 square-foot resort spa offers deluxe facilities and a luxurious array of specialty services that evoke the essence of Waikiki Beach.” Their wide range of treatments encompasses full body treatments, massages, and facials. They cater to both men and women, along with offering couples treatments; however this is an adult only spa.

Suntra Spa, Cape Town, South AfricaHere in Cape Town, life is fast-paced yet quaint; British, yet African; and modern, yet hearkens to earlier days. Not to mention it is absolutely beautiful here! During my stay, I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know Cape Town’s newest hotel and spa, the 15 on Orange. Among the modern and sleek floors, complete with gold couches in the lifts, is the seventh floor spa known as Suntra.
